Physicians' Education Resource® to Host Two Programs During Oncology Nursing Society 43rd Annual Congress

Experts will discuss PARP inhibitors and non-small cell lung cancer

CRANBURY, N.J.--()--Physicians’ Education Resource® (PER®), the leader in hematology and oncology continuing medical education, presents two educational programs during the Oncology Nursing Society’s (ONS) 43rd Annual Congress. Both programs will take place on May 17 at the Marriott Marquis, Marquis Ballroom 5 in Washington, D.C.

“Oncology nurses are on the front line of cancer care and engagement with their patients,” said Phil Talamo, president of PER®. “Therefore, we are thrilled to offer these two special programs that will present real-life strategies to optimize patient outcomes.”

The two education programs are:

  • ONS: PER Forum™: Nursing Opportunities to Improve Outcomes with the Advent of PARP Inhibitors in the Care of Women’s Cancers will begin at 6:00 a.m. The program will be co- chaired by Lorraine Lopez, B.S.N.RN, nurse manager, Arizona Oncology – Biltmore Cancer Center, Division of Gynecology Oncology, and Bradley J. Monk, M.D., FACS, FACOG, professor, division of gynecologic oncology, Arizona Oncology (US Oncology Network), University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix Creighton University School of Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The co-chairs will be joined by expert nurses who will examine the underlying mechanisms by which PARP inhibitors exert their activity in the treatment of cancer and develop processes to proactively mitigate the impact of adverse events in the treatment of ovarian and breast cancers.   • ONS: Working Group for Changing Standards in EGFR-Mutated Lung Cancers: Real-World Applications of the Evidence for Nurses will begin at 12:15 p.m. The program will be co-chaired by Benjamin P. Levy, M.D., clinical director of medical oncology, Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C., and Rasheda Persinger, MSN, AGNP-BC,medical oncology nurse practitioner, Sibley Memorial Hospital. Audience will learn about the evolving approaches including plasma-based testing and understand the new standards of care to optimize outcomes in the frontline management of patients with EGFR-mutated lung cancers.
