Physicians' Education ResourceĀ® to Host First Annual International Congress on Immunotherapies in Cancerā„¢

Attendees to Learn Real-World Applications of Cancer Immunotherapy, American Society of Clinical Oncology’s 2015 Cancer Advance of the Year

PLAINSBORO, N.J. (February 26, 2016) Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®), the “go-to” source for oncology and hematology continuing medical education, today announced that the first annual International Congress on Immunotherapies in Cancer: Focus on Practice-Changing Application will be held December 10 at the Crowne Plaza® Times Square Manhattan, New York.

“Immunotherapies are changing the entire treatment landscape of oncology care, with data being unveiled almost daily on what their potential is and how they are helping cancer patients in virtually all types of solid and liquid tumors,” explained PER® President Phil Talamo. “Their emergence is moving so quickly that ASCO named cancer immunotherapy as its 2015 Advance of the Year. Unfortunately, there has not been a meeting or gathering of experts that truly focuses on how to actually use these new agents in the clinic, how to manage patients while on them and how to maximize their impact during therapy. This meeting fills that need while providing attendees with data from leading experts who will discuss and distill the information into clinical pearls that attendees can take home and directly apply to improving potential patient outcomes.”

The International Congress on Immunotherapies in Cancer: Focus on Practice-Changing Application will be chaired by Naiyer Rizvi, M.D., director of thoracic oncology and director of immunotherapeutics at Columbia University Medical Center’s Division of Hematology/Oncology, and Antoni Ribas, M.D., Ph.D., professor of medicine, professor of surgery and professor of molecular and medical pharmacology at UCLA. He is also the director of the Tumor Immunology Program at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and chair of the Melanoma Committee at Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG). Both doctors are internationally recognized leaders in the treatment of cancer and immunotherapy drug development.

“We’re uncovering new opportunities for immuno-oncology agents almost every day, which is literally shifting the paradigm in cancer treatment,” said Dr. Rizvi. “This meeting will not only update physicians on the latest data, but it will also guide them on what they really need to know while using an immunotherapy in cancer treatment, including the key aspects in treatment decision making, interdisciplinary care, patient management and counseling, and other important real-world strategies. It will be a very unique meeting that fills a necessary void.”

Dr. Ribas added, “As a congress chairperson and attendee, it’s exciting to bring together the leading experts in immunotherapy across several different tumor types as they drive the understanding of how, when and for which patients immunotherapies are an option. To have all of this knowledge in one location at one time will surely lead to amazing discussions, learning opportunities and shared experiences of treating patients.”
