Donna E. Shalala To Discuss The Future of American Medicine At The 30th Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference®

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Plainsboro, N.J. – March 7, 2013 – University of Miami President and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna E. Shalala will discuss health care reform and its impact on the future of American medicine at the 30th Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference®. The conference will take place March 7 through 10 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel in Miami Beach, Fla.

Shalala served as secretary of Health and Human Services for eight years under President Bill Clinton, giving her a singular insight into how the coming changes to our health care system will unfold in the medical field. Shalala is the longest-serving Health and Human Services secretary in U.S. history.

Her address on Saturday, March 9, is part of a four-day conference on breast cancer that will attract 1,200 of the world's top minds in medical, surgical and radiation oncology and this year celebrates its 30th anniversary. The conference is hosted by Physicians' Education Resource (PER®), the go-to source for excellence in continuing medical education. "With so many historic changes in health care on the horizon, I look forward to the opportunity to talk with the leaders of the oncology field," Shalala said.

The conference will be chaired by Dr. Daniel Osman, a Miami breast cancer surgeon who founded the event in 1983 and has led it every year. During this milestone year, pioneers of innovative approaches will provide insight into the optimal management of patients with breast cancer. Dr. Osman and other thought leaders will give attendees opportunities to interact with the faculty through open discussions, as well as share clinical experiences, solve clinical problems, clarify best practices and discuss well-established and emerging therapeutic opportunities.

This educational program is directed at medical, surgical and radiation oncologists interested in the treatment of patients with breast cancer. Fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and other health care professionals interested in the treatment of breast cancer are also invited to attend.

PER® is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide learning opportunities for physicians. Incorporating instructional design with principles of adult learning, PER® plans, develops, implements and evaluates educational opportunities, including multi-day congresses, one-day update conferences, regional meetings, online case discussions and faculty dialogues.
