Bob Griese Named Keynote Speaker at Physicians' Education Resource's International Symposium on Melanoma and Other Cutaneous Malignancies

PLAINSBORO, N.J. (February 15, 2016) Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®), the “go-to” source for oncology and hematology continuing medical education (CME), today announced that NFL Hall of Famer Bob Griese will be the keynote speaker at the 12th Annual International Symposium on Melanoma and Other Cutaneous Malignancies® on February 20 at the Eden Roc Miami in Miami Beach, Fla. The educational and scientific meeting will focus on key clinical topics in the management of melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies.

Currently serving as chairman of Moffitt Cancer Center’s national Board of Advisors, Griese’s wife, Judi, died in 1988 following a five-year battle with breast cancer, which prompted him to get further involved with the fight against cancer. Griese and his present wife, Shay, also publish (third printing) a recipe book, “Griese Spoon Cookbook,” in which part of the profits go to the Moffitt Cancer Center.

“As a leader, two-time Super Bowl winning Hall of Famer and someone who has personally been involved with cancer on many levels, Bob Griese will be a terrific keynote speaker for the medical oncologists, fellows, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists and other oncology professionals attending this symposium,” said PER President Phil Talamo.

With educational activity directed toward professionals who treat patients with skin and other cutaneous malignancies, the symposium will focus on a number of core areas that are key to personalizing care for these tumors in contemporary practices settings, including sessions on targeted therapies, immunotherapies, regional therapy and integrated medicine/patient care. The fast-paced, highly practical and interactive forum will provide attendees unique access to renowned international experts in the management of these tumors.

“The field of skin cancer treatment remains one of the most rapidly evolving areas in oncology and has been a major focus of novel drug development,” explained Talamo. “In particular, the advent of targeted and immunotherapeutic approaches to manage these malignancies has transformed care in recent years. There are also many investigational strategies in late-stage development, and these promise to further change the practice in 2016. This is great news for patients, but also challenges busy clinicians to maintain state-of-the-art approaches.”

At the conclusion of the symposium, in which interested parties can register here, attendees will be better prepared to:
  • Choose treatment based on patient characteristics, such as age and performance status
  • Assess the roles of regional therapies, targeted therapies and immunotherapies in patient treatment
  • Review strategies for mitigating and managing adverse events related to therapy
  • Describe current and emerging strategies for individualizing therapy
  • Evaluate emerging clinical data regarding new regional therapies, targeted therapies and immunotherapies in treating melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies
