Sam Donaldson To Keynote 11th Annual International Symposium on Melanoma and Other Cutaneous Malignancies®

Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®), to Host Innovative CME Conference for Melanoma Specialists March 7

Plainsboro, N.J. (Feb. 23, 2015) – Sam Donaldson, award-winning 44-year ABC News veteran and melanoma survivor, will be the keynote speaker at the 11th Annual International Symposium on Melanoma and Other Cutaneous Malignancies® on March 7. The Continuing Medical Education-certified conference, sponsored by Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®), will take place at the InterContinental Miami Hotel in Miami, Fla.

"We are delighted to host Sam Donaldson as our keynote speaker. He brings a unique perspective to our audience, providing a view of the patient-medical team relationship that focuses on optimism, dynamic patient involvement, aggressive treatment and unrelenting support for scientific research," said program co-chair Jeffrey S. Weber, M.D., Ph.D. Donaldson’s address is part of the one-day CME-certified conference on melanoma that will attract some of the world’s top minds in medical, surgical and radiation oncology.

"The International Symposium on Melanoma and Other Cutaneous Malignancies® brings together leading physicians to increase clinical knowledge, apply new data to practice and ultimately improve patient outcomes," said Phil Talamo, vice president of independent medical education and operations at PER®. "Sam Donaldson’s presence as our keynote speaker will give attendees a greater understanding of the patient-medical team relationship and emphasize the importance of ongoing patient education through the medical community."

An icon of American broadcast journalism, Donaldson served two appointments as ABC’s chief White House correspondent, covering the Carter, Reagan and Clinton administrations. He has been witness to, and reported on, some of the most important breaking news and political events in modern American history.

Since being diagnosed with and successfully treated for melanoma, Donaldson has been a dedicated advocate for cancer research and treatment. He is chair emeritus of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Board of Directors, an honorary member of Wistar’s Melanoma Research Center Advisory Board and a board member of Research!America, an advocacy group promoting research into cancer treatment and prevention.

"The war on cancer must be won. It is my hope that by sharing the insights I have gained along the way, I can inspire cancer patients to work actively with their medical teams to fight the disease, and encourage continued research and funding for new therapies," said Donaldson.
