SONO 2018 Volume 1 - A Message From the Chair

A Message From The Co-Chair

Laura S. Wood, RN, MSN, OCN

From birth, through adulthood, and every stop on the way, nurses are there in a patient’s time of need. For oncology nurses, that patient’s need may be the greatest they face in their lives.

Nursing is a calling to dispense care, to provide comfort, and to heal. In order to maintain the highest level of care for our patients, that calling drives us to first educate ourselves. That’s why I am so proud to be part of educational institutions like the School of Nursing Oncology™.

Last summer, at the inaugural meeting of SONO™, we gathered to discuss the latest trends in oncology care, covering the cancers and malignancies you most commonly encounter. We explored the increasing role of immunotherapy, techniques in toxicity management, methods to improve patient preparedness, and a wealth of supportive care strategies. If you are a nurse starting your career in oncology, SONO™ provides you with a crash course in all things cancer; for more experienced nurses, SONO™ is here to update your care standards and provide a leg up for your patients.

I am excited to be one of the co-chairs for the School of Nursing Oncology™ again this year, but even more so I am excited to attend. I hope you join us in Chicago!

Sincerely,

Laura S. Wood, RN, MSN, OCN
