Physicians' Education Resource® (PER®) To Host First Annual School Of Gastrointestinal Oncology™

PER is industry leader in oncology/hematology continuing medical education, offering physicians clinical information, interpretation and guidance

PLAINSBORO, N.J. (December 1, 2015) — Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®), the “go-to” source for oncology and hematology continuing medical education (CME), today announced that the first annual School of Gastrointestinal Oncology™ (SOGO™) will be held April 23 at the Grand Hyatt New York.

“The prevention, detection and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers are undergoing transformational change, providing oncologists with powerful new tools in the management of gastrointestinal cancers,” said PER® President Phil Talamo. “Recognizing a growing need for specialized education, PER’s School of Gastrointestinal Oncology™ will present a comprehensive overview of the most important aspects of gastrointestinal cancer biology, diagnostics, prevention and treatment, with lectures emphasizing clinical implications presented by leading clinical investigators.”

SOGO™ will be chaired by Dr. John L. Marshall, professor and chief, Division of Hematology/Oncology at Georgetown University Hospital, and director of the Ruesch Center for the Cure of Gastrointestinal Cancers, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Marshall is the principal investigator of more than 150 clinical trials and a global leader in the research and development of drugs for colon cancer and other GI cancers.

“It is an honor to be a founding member of this exciting annual meeting,” said Dr. Marshall. “The School of Gastrointestinal Oncology™ will reflect the best teaching practices utilized in medical schools and will be directed primarily to practicing oncologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and other professionals who treat GI cancers. SOGO™ will serve those whose practices require a critical understanding of the fundamental principles and emerging developments in the pathogenesis and management of these types of cancers.”

PER’s successful annual meeting for the School of Breast Oncology® (SOBO™) provides the model for developing this new SOGO™ meeting. SOBO™ was recognized by the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions for providing “Best in Class Outcomes” at the Alliance Industry Summit in May 2015. Using this award-winning learning format, SOGO™ will effectively discuss the full spectrum of GI cancers in a multi-module agenda.

“With the multitude of new therapeutic developments and emerging management strategies in GI cancers, there has never been a bigger need for a comprehensive and intensive multidisciplinary meeting focusing on the treatment of gastrointestinal oncology,” said Talamo. “PER® is proud and excited to work with Dr. Marshall to provide this new CME platform to both educate oncologists and improve the lives of patients with these types of cancers.”
