Phil Talamo Named President Of Physicians' Education Resource®, The Leading Provider Of Oncology/Hematology Continuing Medical Education

PER® is the industry leader in oncology/hematology continuing medical education, offering physicians clinical information, interpretation and guidance in the formats they prefer

PLAINSBORO, N.J. (Sept. 15, 2015) — Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®), the “go-to” source for oncology and hematology continuing medical education (CME), is pleased to announce that Phil Talamo has been promoted to president of the organization.

Talamo will oversee the educational strategy, operations, growth and vision of PER® , the industry leader in providing oncology/hematology CME to physicians and other health care providers who treat and manage patients with cancer. PER® offers a comprehensive suite of medical education channels and well-known learning formats through an expanding portfolio of legacy national and international meetings, regional meeting series, satellite symposia, print and online journals and blended learning formats.

"I am honored and delighted to be appointed to this position," said Talamo. "There has truly never been a more exciting or challenging time to treat cancer than there is right now. Nor has there ever been a time of greater need for high-quality, personalized, oncology medication education. Alongside the best team in the industry, I am proud to lead this effort with PER® to educate physicians on the evolving standards of cutting-edge care that will ultimately improve the lives of patients with cancer."

PER® has been a leader in CME for nearly 20 years, educating more U.S.-based oncologists and hematologists through live annual CME-certified conferences than any other medical education provider. Its legacy portfolio of live national and international meetings includes the Miami Breast Cancer Conference®, The International Congress on Hematologic Malignancies® and the International Lung Cancer Conference®. PER®'s Annual School of Breast Oncology®, which mirrors best teaching practices utilized in medical schools, was recognized by the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions for providing “Best in Class Outcomes” at the Alliance Industry Summit this past May.

In recent years, PER® has expanded its portfolio and now hosts more than 13 annual meetings, including the Chemotherapy Foundation Symposium: Innovative Cancer Therapy for Tomorrow®, the leading multi-tumor oncology conference in the Northeast, which it acquired in May. PER® recently issued a call for abstracts and posters for this year’s November 4-6 conference in New York City.

Talamo led the acquisition of the Chemotherapy Foundation Symposium and has set the overall strategic direction for PER®. Under his leadership, PER® has expanded beyond its traditional expertise in live programming to develop innovative online education programs through www.GoToPer.com and other new educational platforms. PER® is the only CME provider that publishes its own journal, The American Journal of Hematology/Oncology®, the peer-reviewed resource for oncology education. In 2013, PER® also acquired the well-known Medical Crossfire® online educational format. Talamo took the lead in expanding its focus into oncology to provide expert interpretation and guidance on how to apply the latest data to challenging real-world clinical scenarios.

“We’re setting the standard in continuing medical education,” said Talamo. “We understand that oncologists are incredibly busy and have different preferences for engaging in different types of information. Therefore, we are continuing to invest and to grow through all of our educational modalities to provide a personalized learning experience for our participants. Through the variety of our programs that PER® develops, we can truly personalize our CME for physicians and present the information that they need in the format that they want.”

Previously, Talamo was vice president, Independent Medical Education & Operations at PER® , a position he held since April 2014. In that role, he led the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of PER®'s portfolio of national conferences, congresses and symposia, in addition to regional meetings and online activities. Prior to his leadership roles at PER®, Talamo was the director of sales at Intellisphere Managed Markets, publishers of The American Journal of Managed Care® and The American Journal of Pharmacy Benefits®, where he assisted in the successful launch of the AJMC: Evidence-Based Oncology platform, including a print journal, online resource and the Patient-Centered Oncology Care® live annual meeting.

Talamo is a graduate of Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in government and history.
