Amy Robach Named Keynote Speaker at Physicians' Education Resource's 33rd Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference

Robach Personal Breast Cancer Experience Complements Attendees Learning About Cutting-Edge Approaches in Breast Cancer

PLAINSBORO, N.J. (February 18, 2016) - Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®), the “go-to” source for oncology and hematology continuing medical education, today announced that “Good Morning America” news anchor Amy Robach, a breast cancer survivor, will be the keynote speaker at the 33rd Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference® from March 10-13 at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.

Recognized as one of the top breast cancer meetings worldwide, the Miami Breast Cancer Conference is a unique educational event that brings together leading national and international surgical and medical oncologists to present and evaluate cutting-edge technology and approaches in the management of breast cancer.

Currently in her second year as “GMA” news anchor, Robach learned of her breast cancer in October 2013 following her first ever mammogram (broadcast live in front of millions of viewers) on the show’s "Goes Pink Day" telecast during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. After receiving her diagnosis, Robach publically made the announcement of her cancer on a subsequent “GMA” broadcast before having a double mastectomy and subsequent treatment. She has since written a best-selling book, “Better,” that chronicles her journey of the 12 months following her breast cancer diagnosis.

“Amy Robach is an inspirational individual who shared her personal experience in a very public forum to further build awareness on the importance of women getting mammograms and the fight against breast cancer,” said PER President Phil Talamo. “Her appearance and keynote speech couldn’t be more timely and relevant. In January, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force changed its recommendations on mammogram screening, saying they should start for women at age 50 versus age 40. This has been a hotly debated topic for years, with Ms. Robach and her story being a great example of why getting mammograms earlier is better. This is just one key topic that truly aligns with the mission of the Miami Breast Cancer Conference in presenting real-world practice-changing information to the medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, and other oncology and health care professionals, attending the conference.”

The Miami Breast Cancer Conference has been recognized for decades as one of the top breast cancer meetings worldwide. Advances are occurring in all aspects of patient care, including prevention, screening and detection, as well as in the primary treatment modalities of surgery, radiation therapy, endocrine therapy, cytotoxic chemotherapy and novel biologic therapies. The multidisciplinary conference is the premiere forum for fostering awareness of state-of-the-art treatments in each therapeutic area and encouraging cross-team cooperation. Pioneers of innovative approaches in each of these subspecialties will provide insight into the optimal multidisciplinary management of patients with breast cancer and its application to practice.

“With the overriding theme of the Miami Breast Cancer Conference being ‘Hear it on Friday, Use it on Monday,’ attendees will not only improve their knowledge of novel treatment approaches, but also leave the conference with the confidence to apply state-of-the-art treatment strategies to improve the care of their breast cancer patients,” said Talamo.

All health care professionals performing, or interested in the, treatment of breast cancer can register for the 33rd Annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference®.
