Plainsboro, NJ – January 20, 2014 – The go-to source for excellence in continuing medical education, Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®), will host the 1st Annual Miami Lung Cancer Conference™ on March 8 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.

The 1st Annual Miami Lung Cancer Conference™ will be conducted utilizing a medical crossfire interactive format, a live program that is designed to aid physicians in assessing the wealth of new data, choosing treatment based upon patient and tumor characteristics, and applying those findings to their practices.

The conference will be chaired by Thomas J. Lynch, MD, director of the Yale Cancer Center and physician-in-chief of the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. He is also the Richard Sackler and Jonathan Sackler Professor of Medical Oncology at Yale-New Haven.

According to Phil Talamo, director, PER® Independent Medical Education, “We are in an extraordinary time in the treatment of lung cancer. The past few years have seen an enormous amount of new data that we are hoping to distill and present in a new and engaging way.”

The 1st Annual Miami Lung Cancer Conference™ presenters will review the latest data and discuss treatment planning and considerations for the future.  Topics will include traditional therapies for patients with advanced disease, EGFR- and ALK-targeted therapies in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and immune-based strategies.

“I am excited to help initiate a new lung cancer educational initiative with PER®. This activity will be of upmost importance to practicing physicians, as we bring both academic and community presenters together on three panels to discuss traditional therapies, the newest targeted therapies, strategies for overcoming resistance to treatment, and new direction in immunotherapy,” said Dr. Lynch.

This program will be held at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel with a live audience. Faculty will present in an interactive panel format to engage participants and aid in learning. This program will also be available online on PER’s website, www.gotoper.com, the online destination for oncology continuing medical education.

This educational program is directed toward medical oncologists involved in the treatment and management of patients with lung cancer. Fellows, radiation and surgical oncologists, pulmonologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and other healthcare professionals interested in the treatment of lung cancer are also welcome.
