Physician's Education Resource® Co-Program Director Honored With Lectureship Award

Dr. Roy Herbst Receives the Sixth Annual Bonnie J. Addario Lectureship Award

Plainsboro, N.J. – April 9, 2014 – The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (ALCF) announced today the winner of its 2014 Lectureship Award is Dr. Roy Herbst, a medical oncologist at Yale Cancer Center and distinguished co-director of the International Lung Cancer Congress® (ILCC). This award annually honors luminaries in the lung cancer field working to improve and prolong the lives of those with the disease, and its eradication.

The award will be presented at PER®'s 15th Annual International Lung Cancer Congress® in Huntington Beach, Calif., to be held July 31 – August 2, 2014. The ALCF annually presents the award at this event to oncologists working to bring an end to lung cancer through research and the search for a cure.

Dr. Herbst is nationally recognized for this leadership and expertise in lung cancer treatment and research. He is best known for his work in developmental therapeutics and personalized therapy for patients with non-small cell lung cancer, in particular the process of linking genetic abnormalities of cancer cells to novel therapies. He is Ensign Professor of Medicine at Yale University and Chief of Medical Oncology at Yale Cancer Center. Dr. Herbst also serves as co-program director for the International Lung Cancer Congress® along with Dr. David Gandara, Professor of Medicine at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center.

"I have worked with Dr. Herbst for many years as co-chairs of the International Lung Cancer Congress® as well as in SWOG and on a number of other projects. One of the most important projects is the new Lung Master Protocol, S1400, which we anticipate will change the way drugs are developed in the United States. Dr. Herbst is chair of the over site committee for the project.  He is truly visionary in his thinking, which is essential if we are to make major advances in the war against lung cancer.  I am proud to see him recognized as recipient of this highly prestigious award," said Dr. Gandara. "The ILCC is fortunate to have the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation working together in partnership with us."

"I have known Dr. Herbst since the inception of our foundation. His innovation, creativity and novel approach to changing the status quo in lung cancer research is inspiring to many. He embraces collaborative science and is changing the face of lung cancer research as it is known today." said Bonnie J. Addario, Founder and Chairman of ALCF.
