Community Practice Connections™: The 5th Annual New York Cardio-Endo-Renal Collaborative (NY CERC)

Release Date: November 11, 2021
Expiration Date: November 11, 2022

Activity Overview

The ever-increasing presence of cardiometabolic risk factors continues to be a major challenge for health care providers in the United States. Current estimates suggest that approximately 23% to 38% of all US adults have metabolic syndrome, a constellation of cardiometabolic risk factors that includes excessive abdominal fat, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. Patients with metabolic syndrome have 3 to 5 times the likelihood of developing diabetes and at least double the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and stroke than seen among people who do not have this condition. Other CVD consequences (eg, acute coronary syndrome [ACS], thrombosis, atrial fibrillation) have also been linked to metabolic syndrome.

This Community Practice Connections™ program provides an in-depth review of some of the key highlights from the 5th Annual New York Cardio-Endo-Renal Collaborative (NY CERC)®, held in September 2021. This unique, engaging, multimedia activity is ideal for the community-based clinician. It focuses on the practical aspects of managing patients with cardiometabolic risk factors and puts reported trial data into clinical context. The program is designed for those who did not attend the live meeting and is intended to reinforce learnings for those who did.
